2023-24 Varsity Volleyball Season : Sports and Mental Health: Discussed with my Varsity volleyball team teammates and friends, how participation in team sports has immense mental health benefits. It activates endorphins, decreases cortisol levels and builds social connectivity. Hoffman et al (2022) studied 11,000 US adolescents and showed that those who participated in team sports had likelihood of increased resilience to mental health issues.

Mental Health America 2023 Annual Conference – what a privilege to learn from this national gathering of experts at the Mental Health America Annual Conference in Washington D.C. and discuss novel approaches to tackling the teenage mental health crisis. I am so proud that my effort – The H.U.M.AN.S. Initiative (www.humansinitiative.org) has been granted Community Partner Status by the Mental Health Association in New York State (MHANYS).

Initiative – Healing mental health Using Music and Song  www.humansinitiative.org . We all need to do better to prevent the spread of this epidemic – music and song can help. Please join me in this crusade.

Get informed Read about the basic issues surrounding teenage mental health – the causes, the symptoms, the implications and the way forward.
Promote music for mental health Advocate for middle schoolers to participate in music, not just to win, but to acta as a release when they need it in times of stress.
Act as a support for those in need Be prepared with what you can do to help your peers if you are faced with a situation with a friend, or if you reslise a peer is facing challenges
Create a local HUMANS initiative at your school Form a HUMANS Initiative at your school to promote teenage mental health.
Share your experiences between HUMANS Initiative Societies Share your experiences with all the HUMANS Initiative chapters.
